What is a modifier group?

A modifier group is a container for related choices that customers select when ordering an item. For example, a Cooking Temperature modifier group might contain Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, and Well Done. A Sauce Choice group might contain Ranch, BBQ, and Honey Mustard.

How to create a modifier group

  1. Go to Catalog then the Modifier Groups tab.
  2. Click Add Modifier Group.
  3. Enter the group name (e.g. Cooking Temperature, Sauce Choice, Add-Ons).
  4. Set Minimum Selection1 makes it required before the item can be added to an order, 0 makes it optional.
  5. Set Maximum Selection1 means the customer picks exactly one option, higher numbers allow multiple selections (e.g. 3 for toppings).
  6. Click Save.

Required vs optional modifier groups

Set Minimum Selection to 1 for choices the customer must make — for example size or cooking temperature. Set it to 0 for optional add-ons like extra toppings or sauce on the side. Required modifier groups prevent the item from being added to the order until the choice is made.

How to reorder modifier groups on an item

The order modifier groups appear when an item is tapped matches the order they are assigned in the item's Modifiers tab. Drag them to rearrange — put the most important choices (like size) first.
