Getting started with menu

How the menu is structured
The Vivid menu follows a three-level hierarchy. Understanding this structure makes building and maintaining your menu much easier.
- Super Categories are the top-level tabs on your POS — for example Food, Drinks, or Merchandise. Guests and staff navigate here first.
- Categories sit inside Super Categories and group related items — for example Burgers, Cocktails, or Appetizers.
- Items are your individual menu items — each lives inside a Category and can have modifiers attached.
Where to manage your menu
- Log in to your Vivid backend portal.
- Open the left navigation and click Catalog.
- Use the tabs at the top to navigate between Super Categories, Categories, Items, Modifier Groups, and Modifiers.
Syncing menu changes to the POS
Changes made in the backend portal sync to the POS automatically within a few minutes. To force an immediate sync, log out of the POS and log back in, or pull down to refresh on the home screen.
Best practices for menu organization
- Keep Super Category names short — they appear as tabs on the POS screen
- Group items logically by how your staff thinks about them, not just by ingredient
- Use modifier groups for any choice that repeats across multiple items (e.g. cooking temperature, sauce choice)
- Set item counts on daily specials to prevent overselling
