What is a super category?

Super categories are the top-level navigation tabs that appear on your POS screen. When a server taps "Food" or "Drinks" on the POS, they are tapping a super category. Everything on your menu lives inside one — no item can exist without a super category above it.

How to create a super category

  1. In the backend portal go to Catalog.
  2. Click the Super Categories tab.
  3. Enter the name in the Enter Super Category field (e.g. Food, Drinks, Merchandise, Desserts).
  4. Select a Tax Class — this applies to all items in this super category unless overridden at the item level.
  5. Click + Add.

How to reorder super categories on the POS

The order super categories appear on the POS matches the sort order in the portal. Drag and drop them in the Super Categories list to rearrange — changes sync to the POS on next login.

Tips

  • Keep names short — 1 or 2 words ideal since they display as tabs on a small screen
  • Each category must belong to exactly one super category
  • If you need the same items to appear under two super categories, create a duplicate category in each
