What is the KDS?

The Kitchen Display System replaces paper ticket printers in the kitchen. Orders appear on screen in real time as they are entered on the POS. Kitchen staff tap items as they prepare them — no paper, no lost tickets, and full visibility for the whole team.

How to mark items complete on the KDS

  1. When an order fires from the POS it appears as a card on the KDS screen.
  2. Tap an individual item to mark it in progress — the color changes to show status.
  3. Tap Done on the card to mark the full ticket as complete.
  4. Completed tickets are removed from the screen or moved to a completed queue depending on your settings.

How to set up the KDS

  1. Ensure the KDS device is on the same network as your POS terminals.
  2. Open the KDS app and log in with your Vivid credentials.
  3. Select the service area this screen should display orders for (e.g. Kitchen, Bar, Expo).
  4. Contact your Vivid rep for help with initial hardware installation and mounting.

KDS configuration options

  • Alert timers — set a time threshold after which tickets turn yellow or red to flag slow orders
  • Service area filtering — show only orders from specific areas (e.g. bar KDS only shows bar orders)
  • Sound alerts — play a sound when new orders arrive
